Cool offer will keep Nuneaton and Bedworth residents warm – and wealthier!
Nuneaton and Bedworth residents are being offered the chance to save money, stay warm and help the environment – thanks to a scheme launched by the Energy Saving Trust and the borough council.
The two organisations have teamed up to offer residents the chance to save a fortune on their fuel bills by spending as little as £49 on having their homes insulated.
This subsidised offer is available on a first come first served basis to anyone living in a home with cavity walls or a loft within the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council area. Householders living in a three bedroom semi, for example, can have either their walls or lofts insulated from just £49 rather than £80.
But the discount being offered by the Energy Saving Trust and the council is just the tip of the savings iceberg. The work could pay for itself within less than a few months, as insulated lofts can save around £150 a year on fuel bills and insulated cavity walls around £115 a year.
Around a third of the heat produced in an uninsulated home is lost through walls and a quarter through roofs – which means cavity wall and loft insulation can drastically reduce wastage.
Paul Coopey, Private Sector Housing Manager for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough council, said:
“This offer is an excellent opportunity for all residents of the Borough to improve the energy efficiency of their home at a greatly reduced price. Global warming is an issue that most of us will be familiar with by now and we are pleased to be able to help people reduce their individual carbon footprint by working with the Energy Saving Trust. The grant is available to all homeowners, and anyone in receipt of benefits can get these measures for free in order to help alleviate fuel costs and financial pressure. Once energy efficiency in the home has been improved, significant savings can be made on fuel costs, so much so that in a year the initial cost of the work can be recovered.”
Manager of the Energy Saving Trust west Midlands Advice Centre Lynn Melling explained: “There is a limited amount of money available to subsidise these schemes so it makes sense to get in touch as soon as possible. Homeowners will see a huge difference not only in their fuel bills but also in their general comfort when they have their lofts and walls insulated. Unfortunately only post war houses have cavity walls – but even if you live in an older house an insulated loft can make a big difference to your comfort and your bank balance.”
