Volkswagen to unveil new green fleet
Written by Emily Thomas
Volkswagen is set to unveil a new addition to its green fleet among a host of other models at the Frankfurt Auto Show this week.
The German carmaker plans to introduce the world to its new electric car, entitled E-Up, which is reportedly capable of travelling around 130 kilometres before needing to be recharged, depending on the driving style applied.
It is hoped that the car will go into production in 2013 and will meet levels of the German carmaker's other popular models by 2020.
Chief executive Martin Winterkorn said: "One of the basic milestones on this timeline is the mass produced electric car.
"The concept car now being presented in Frankfurt very realistically shows how we envision such a Volkswagen with pure electric drive - technically, visually and with regard to a practical size."
Volkswagen is also set to unveil other designs which will feature new hybrid technology and more of its Blue Motion technology.
Mr Winterkorn added: "The future will belong to lower emissions and more efficient transportation. We're releasing one environmentally friendly car after another."
